Vikram Dual Role in Vendhan ?

Vikram is starting his next film with Suseenthiran for producer Kanakaratna Ramesh. Vikram’s Vendhan with Suseendran is all set to go on the floors from June 7th. His leading ladies are Kannada babe, Dheeksha Seth and Mithra Kurien who was seen in Kavalan. The USP in this film is that we will be getting twice as much as Vikram!

The National award winner has a double role in this flick, and that is a first for him. Word is that he will be playing both father and son in this action film.

Sarathkumar is something of a specialist in this particular kind of double role, having notched up hits like Suryavamsam, Natpukaga, and Nattamai to name a few. Perhaps Vikram is all set to follow in his footsteps.

Ajith moves on Billa 2 !

Billa 2 will go on floors on June 20th, 2011! The shooting is all set to begin on the said date in Hyderabad. By this date, Ajith would have completed his commitments in Mankatha and will be ready to move on.

Billa 2 will be the prequel to Billa, which was released in 2007. The was initially in the hands of director Vishnuvardhan but later it went to Chakri Toleti, the man who directed Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal in Unnai Pol Oruvan.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has been signed up to compose music for Billa 2 and he has completed composing a couple of songs already.

Karunanidhi family Launch New TV Channel ?

Fearing that the Enforcement Directorate probing the 2G spectrum allocation scam may ask the ministry of information and broadcasting to cancel the licences of Kalaignar TV, its management has obtained license to launch a new channel the moment Kalaignar TV goes off the air.

With promoter Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK leader Muthuvel Karunanidhi, and managing director Sharat Babu cooling their heels in Tihar Jail on charges of hatching the 2G scam and money laundering, Kalaignar TV, owned by the Karunanidhi family, has gone into a major fire-fighting exercise.

The Karunanidhi family has made arrangements to launch the new channel with the name Murasu. “Yes, the ministry has given them the license to start new TV channels under the brand name Murasu. It is for the management to decide when to launch the channels,” said Atya Nand, under-secretary (broadcasting), ministry of Information and Broadcasting, told DNA. Atya Nand heads the section issuing licences to prospective television broadcasters.

To begin with, Murasu will beam two channels. “One will be an exclusive news channel and the other a general entertainment channel,” said a source in Kalaignar TV. “We will restrict Murasu to news and entertainment for the time being,” he said.

Meanwhile, the top management had convened a meeting of the programme staff late last week to inform them about possible fallout of the arrest of Kanimozhi and Sarat Babu. “The management has asked those of us interested in moving out are welcome to do so since the company is facing financial problems,” said an employee. He said 27 persons have already quit.

Karunanidhi and the DMK need a TV channel very badly in the backdrop of Sun Network, owned by the Maran brothers, cozying up to chief minister Jayalalithaa and almost blacking out Kanimozhi from its news bulletins.

Court Summon to Sun Pictures Kalanidhi Maran ?

The XIII Metropolitan Magistrate in Chennai issued summons to Sun Pictures managing director Kalanidhi Maran and director Shankar to appear before the court in person on June 24 in connection with a case filed by Tamil writer Aroor Tamilnadan aka Amudha Tamilnadan, alleging that the original story of their Enthiran (Robot) was lifted right out of his short story 'Jugiba'.

According to senior advocate K. Elangovan who represented the writer, Enthiran was based on his story Jugiba, published in Iniya Udhayam magazine in 1996.

"In this regard, we have already filed a copyright violation complaint with the-then city police commissioner T. Rajendran, but the police failed to file an FIR and insisted on deleting the name of Kalanidhi Maran from the complaint," said Elangovan. As the producer who made profit out of the movie, Maran's name should not be dropped from the complaint, Elangovan said.

Shankar’s upcoming ‘Nanban’ needs no introduction among you movie-buffs. The movie is being shot at a full spree, and we had earlier told you that the team flew down to Coimbatore to shoot a few important scenes.

Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay doubtlessly, dons the role of the protagonist, earlier played by Aamir Khan as Rancho or Phunsukh Wangdoo. This role is that of a casual college student, who is brainy yet has a cool approach towards life, adding a spark and happiness in the lives of all those around.

What’s interesting is that, we can see in this picture, Jeeva full of finger rings, of course, he plays the role played by Sharman Joshi as Raju Rastogi. One who hails from a poor family and is burdened with the duties of his family’s livelihood, sister’s wedding and is scared to death, does a million poojas, thus, explaining the rings.

Shriya Saran will join Karthi or Kamal Hassan ?

Whenever Kamal Haasan starts a new project, reports would suggest that Shriya Saran would be the heroine of the film. Now that the ‘Ulaga Nayagan’ is ready for ‘Viswaroopam’, there’s no stopping for this claim, once again.

It is said that Shriya has been approached to play one of the heroines of ‘Viswaroopam’, which already has Sonakshi Sinha acting opposite Kamal. Things are expected to be finalised in a day or two.

Meanwhile, Shriya has denied that she would play Karthi Sivakumar’s heroine in ‘Saguni’. “I have not come across such an offer. However I would love to sign the film if I am approached.”

The actress is currently busy on the sets of ‘Rowthiram’ with Jeeva. Sources say her role in the film is so crucial that it comes with suspense. “It will be an important film in Shriya’s career,” they say.

Superstar Mohanlal and talented Sreenivasan are one of the greatest pairs in the history of Malayalam cinema. The duo's comeback movie Oru Naal Varum (2010), directed by Rajeev Kumar, is being dubbed in Tamil with the same title. The plot is as follows:

Gopikrishnan (Sreenivasan) is an Assistant Town Planning Officer who misuses his powers, bends rules on receiving bribes and never cares about the poor. He has great dreams about his daughter and is saving money to get a seat for her admission to a medical college.

Sukumaran (Mohanlal) approaches Gopikrishnan for approval to build a house. The two earlier had a scuffle and the Town Planner makes life hell for the hapless Sukumaran. Sameera Reddy plays Mohanlal's wife in this film. Oru Naal Varum did not create waves at the Kerala box office.

Actor Karthi Celebrating his 34th birthday!

Karthi celebrating his birthday today. His graduating from New York State University in Industrial Engineering, Karthi's career began as a consultant in an engineering firm in Chennai. Soon, he grew tired of the job and joined director Mani Ratnam's crew.

S.P Jananathan and Jeeva make period flick ?

Think period films and our minds immediately rush to a war backdrop with our protagonist fighting away hundred baddies with his sword and his lady love awaiting him truly.

This is not our fault because almost all Indian period films we know of, needless to mention names, revolve around a war or an epic story showcasing good vs. evil sort of concepts.

Doing away from these will soon be a flick directed by SP Jananathan. The Kollywood grapevine abuzz is that, SP Jananathan will be joining hands with actor Jeeva for this movie. The duo had earlier worked together for ‘E,’ a movie that received much critical-acclaim due to its unique script.

It is said that the director is still working on this untitled project and the movie dates back to South India that was a 1000 years ago. Instead of showcasing a typical war backdrop the film will be a love story set in South India 1000 years back that was rich with literature works and scholars, when the whole world was not yet that civilized.

SP Jananathan is researching on Tamilians who excelled in engineering and Tamil literature that surrounds it. Looks like we have yet another interesting movie from SP and Jeeva…

Karthi romance with Shriya Saran ?

All the heroines in tinsel town are dying to work with the hot and happening Karthi, and they were all considered for the female lead in Saguni. But Shriya Saran is the lucky lady who has landed the part. She is pleased to be sharing screen space with a livewire like Karthi. Kannada babe Praneetha, who will be seen in Arulnidhi’s Udayan is also being considered for a part in Saguni. Apparently, Saguni is a two-heroine project.

Being directed by newcomer Shankar Dayal, and produced by Dream Warrior Projects with music by GV Prakash Kumar, Saguni is touted to be a racy political drama with twists and turns designed to keep the audience guessing. It’s official now. Kajal Agarwal will be the heroine of Suriya’s ‘Maatraan’, which will be directed by K V Anand. “Yes, I am part of the movie. And I am thrilled about it,” says the actress.

Heroines of K V Anand’s films would have enough importance. They would not be used for the purpose of glamour alone. Even this film (‘Maatraan’) too is an example to it.

Happy about sharing the screen space with Suriya, Kajal says, “It’s my longtime wish to act with Suriya. I am eagerly expecting the day of shooting.” Remember Kajal was the heroine of ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’, which had Karthi, Suriya’s younger brother, in lead role.

Kollywood rumour mills are now churning out the news that ace director Mani Ratnam will direct Ilayathalapathy Vijay in a complete action entertainer. It is a well known fact that Mani Ratnam recently signed Vijay to play the lead role in his onscreen adaptation of the classic novel 'Ponniyin Selvan'. But due to budget constraints the project couldn't take off. Now the latest buzz is that since the director already has Vijay's dates (which he signed for 'Ponniyin Selvan'), he is now considering to make a complete action entertainer on the lines of Thalapathy and Agni Natchataram.

Selvaraghavan out in Kamal Haasan's Viswaroopam ?

Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Kamal Haasan has taken over as the director of Viswaroopam, replacing Selvaraghavan!

The film produced by Telephoto Films was originally slated to be directed by Selvaraghavan, with Kamal Haasan and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead and music by Shankar Ehasan Loy.

The buzz is that since the unit could not get US visas on time, the shooting was postponed. And Selva got busy trying to complete his Irandam Ulagam for UTV with his brother Dhanush.

Now the producer of Viswaroopam got all the necessary formalities to shoot in London, Canada and US. He approached Kamal Haasan and requested him to direct the film as the script and screenplay is by the star. Kamal agreed and will now start the shoot from June 4.

Viswaroopam is being made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on a big budget and will become one of the biggest projects in the country. The film is proposed to be shot on Red Camera and is likely to release around Kamal’s birthday on November 7.

Vijay Kiss Ileana ?

One of the highpoints of '3 Idiots' is a romantic encounter between Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the climax, during which they would exchange a passionate kiss. Now that the film is being remade in Tamil, there is a question about retaining the scene.

"It is a long liplock scene which was well received by the audience. But it may not be retained in the Tamil version. Even if it is there, it would be shot in a way that you miss it if you blink," sources close to the unit say.

'3 Idiots' is being Tamilised by Shankar as 'Nanban', with Vijay, Srikanth and Jeeva playing the lead roles. Ileana is the heroine, while Sathyaraj plays her father. Music is scored by Harris Jayaraj.

"Nanban is getting shape fast. Shankar has made some slight changes to the script to make it appeal to the Tamil audience. There may even be a fight sequence to satisfy Vijay fans. But we are not sure about it," sources say further.

Bala's Avan Ivan Release on June ?

The most talked about film of the year Bala's Avan Ivan features Arya, Vishal , Janani Iyer, and Madhu Shalini in the lead and has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The film is produced by Kalpathi S. Agoram's AGS Entertainment and there were rumours that Sun Pictures would market the film. Remember AGS's last film Engeyum Kathal was marketed by Sun Pictures? But after change of guard at the state level, equations have changed in the film industry.

Dhanush has bagged the prestigious Best Actor award for his outstanding performance as KP Karuppu in the film, Aadukalam.

Aadukalam has won six awards for Best Actor, Best Director (Vetrimaran), Best Screenplay (Vetrimaran), Best Editor ( Kishore Te) and Best Choreographer (Dinesh Master) and Editing also.

Thambi Ramiah won in the best supporting actor category for his comedy cop role in Mynaa.

Rajinikanth's Shankar directed Enthiran bagged three awards for special effects, art direction (Sabu Cyril), and production.

Asin Pair With SRK ?

After romancing two of the three Khans in Bollywood (Aamir Khan in Ghajini and Salman Khan in London Dreams and Ready), Bollywood sensation and South Indian beauty Asin is all set to romance the third Khan, none other than Shahrukh Khan in his new film titled 2 States, a screen adaption of bestseller 'Two States' written by Chetan Bhagat, reports said.

According to sources, Asin has been chosen for the heroine's role, because the lead female character in the novel is a Tamil. The film will be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.

Reportedly, Asin was the first choice of producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj. Asin is already working in Nadiadwala's another production Housefull 2.

Actor Dhanush Won National award for Adukalam !

Actor Dhanush has won the prestigious National award (Best Actor) for his heart breaking performance in Vettrimaran's Aadukalam. It is a well know fact that the K.P. Karuppu of Aadukalam is one of Dhanush's favourites characters on screen.

Aadukalam is based on true incidents that took place in Madurai. Vetrimaran had stayed in Madurai for almost six months to prepare the screenplay and sought the help of a professor friend to write the dialogues in Madurai dialect.

Taapsee played the female lead in the film. Vetrimaran also won national award for screenplay.

Mankatha Audio Launch in July ?

Couple of days left for the single track album of ‘Mankatha’ to hit audio stores, ‘Thala’ fans have some more good news. Yes, the audio launch of complete track is scheduled to be launched by second week of June as Sony BMG affirms it.

As known earlier, the album has nine tracks that include a club mix of a track and signature music of ‘Mankatha’. Meanwhile, the pre-order sales of the single track album are doing good business as it includes some special offers.

Closer sources to Cloud Nine Movies have revealed that the producers are planning to release the film by July. It is worth mentioning that there are some more big tickets ‘Deiva Thirumagal, ‘Avan Ivan’ and ‘Velayudham’ scheduled for release in June and July

Kamala Hassan's Viswaroopam Started ?

It is confirmed Kamal Haasan will start the shoot of his Selvaraghavan directed Viswaroopam from June.

The film will be shot in Canada, and the cast crew are getting Visas. Remember earlier they could not obtain US Visas, which forced the team to move to Canada. Meanwhile Kamal Haasan will be producing the Tamil remake of Rajesh Pillai's Malayalam super hit Traffic after completing Viswaroopam.

In an interview to a leading Malayalam daily, Rajesh Pillai said: "Kamal sir was so impressed with the Traffic that he came for the 100days celebration of the film in Kochi . His Rajkamal will be

producing it in Tamil. We will start the film mainly with new faces and Kamal sir once Viswaroopam shoot is over."

Selvaraghavan to direct Allu Arjun ?

There are multiple versions about the fate of ‘Viswaroopam’, the Kamal Haasan starrer to be directed by Selvaraghavan. While some say the project is very much on, there are others saying both Kamal and Selva are now planning different things.

“Kamal is keen at remaking Malayalam hit ‘Traffic’, while Selva, who will complete ‘Irandam Ulagam’ with Dhanush soon, will start a Telugu film starring Allu Arjun in the lead role,” say sources.

Unintentionally confirming this, music Harris Jayaraj has written on his microblogging page: “I am starting my next Telugu film by August with Allu Arjun and Shruthi on the lead for which Selvaraghavan does the direction.”

On the ‘Irandam Ulagam’ front, Selva has recently replaced heroine Andrea Jeremiah with Tollywood girl Richa Gangopadhyay. “The romantic film is fast taking shape,” say sources in the know.

DMDK president Vijaykanth has thanked comedian Vadivelu for coming down heavily against him during the election campaign. “Only because of such remarks we have emerged triumphant,” he said.

Telugu director Surender Reddy, who is set to commence his next film Oosaravelli with Jr. NTR and Tamannaah in the lead roles, has reportedly asked the lead actors to feature in a liplock scene in the film to meet the romantic demands of the story!

Ajith Will look young in ‘Billa 2' ?

Thala is going for a young and energetic look in ‘Billa 2’, which will go on floors by the end of June or by the beginning of July this year.

“I am fast completing the shooting of Mankatha. Because Ajith has to hit the gym for Billa 2, for he has decided to reduce weight to get a fresh look,” says Venkat Prabhu, the director of Ajith’s 50th film.

Directed by Chakri Toleti of ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ fame, ‘Billa 2’ will be a prequel to ‘Billa’, Ajith’s 2007 hit inspired by a blockbuster of the same title starring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role.

Says Ajith, “I am eagerly looking forward to do Billa 2. It is an energetic team and the script is so powerful and interesting as well. Both Mankatha and Billa 2 will be important movies in my career.”

We have reported that Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council president Ramanarayanan resigned from his post. In his resignation letter, he stated that he was resigning from the post due to his new film and personal commitments.

He also thanked the Tamil Film Producers' Council, The Film Directors' Association, the South Indian Artistes' Association and FEFSI for their support and cooperation so far.

Now the latest buzz is that film maker S.A. Chandrasekhar (Vijay's father) has been elected as the new President of Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council.

Velayudham Promo Trailer

Ilayathalapathy Vijay has premiered the 'first look' promo of his next film Velayudham on Jaya TV.

The promos were seen on the channel at a time when Jayalalithaa's ADMK is heading for a landslide win in TN, which has ensured maximum eyeballs for the film.

The promo itself assures you that it is a 'typical Vijay mass masala', right from the first shot where our hero is seen emerging from a second class sleeper compartment.

The peppy Vijay Antony title song Vela, Vela, Velayudham plays in the background. M Raja the director obviously knows the pulse of the mass audiences.

Vijay hogs the promo in the company of three heroines Genelia, Hansika and Saranya along with comedian Santhanam.

Jeeva under Gautham Menon's direction?

Close to the heels of the news that Jiiva had met SP Jananathan and was impressed by the storyline which he had narrated, we have another news that Jiiva had also met ace director Gautham Menon recently.

It is said that Gautham had discussed a story with Jiiva and the actor is also keen on working with him. Since Jiiva is busy with a number of projects on hands and Gautham is concentrating in the Hindi version of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya, it is not clear when this film will commence. An official announcement from Gautham is expected to be in the midst of the media quote soon.

Jiiva’s fans are expecting the star to sign up projects with top directors after the success of Ko, and actor’s thoughts also seem to be in sync with it.

Vijay Next With Director Ameer ?

Director Ameer, who is currently busy with Aadhi Bhagwan, is all set to begin the groundwork for his next venture. This time around he has roped in Illayathalapathi Vijay to play the protagonist in his film.

The film is titled "Kannabiran". The script is designed to suit Vijay’s mass image it is revealed.

Director Ameer who has worked with top actors like Suriya, Karthi, Jiiva has now managed to convince Vijay for his latest venture.

There seems to be little chance for ‘Velayudham’, Vijay’s forthcoming film, to hit the screens on June 22, the Ilaya Thalapathi’s birthday. We learn that the movie will be released only around July or August.

“Though Velayudham major part of the film has been shot, some important scenes and songs are yet to be picturised. So it will take time at least till June to complete the shooting. A surprise element in Ajith’s Mankatha has been unwrapped. Sources reveal that Ajith will portray a dual role in Mankatha. Thala will play a tough cop in the film, the other character would be that of a commoner.

“Yes, the basic knot of the script is gambling. But it is not true that the film revolves entirely on cricket betting. It will deal about all sorts of gambling that are taking place,” said the filmmaker.

On the role played by Arjun in the film, he said, “Since he is playing a cop who is behind Ajith, the scenes in which he appear will be the highlight of the film. In one particular scene, Ajith would call him Action King.”

It may be noted that Mankatha is Ajith’s next to be released movie. The music is scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film is directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri.

Trisha Agree Bikini act in Bodyguard Remake?

Leading Tamil-Telugu actress Trisha seems to have changed her mind over sporting a bikini on screen!

Sources insist that Trisha, who earlier declined bikini acts, has agreed to sport a two piece swimsuit for the first time in her career for her forthcoming Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster Bodyguard, which was made in Tamil as Kaavalan.

Notably, the original version does not have a bikini act, but the actress has agreed to don a bikini to keep an edge over her competitors, it is said. Reports further claim that the actress has charged an additional amount of Rs. 25 lakhs for the bikini act.

Starring Victory Venkatesh in the lead role, the remake was launched in April and regular shooting is on. It is directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Bellamkonda Suresh under the banner of Sai Ganesh Productions.

Silambarasan’s Next is Osthi

The muhurat and shooting of Silambarasan’s next began this morning with much fanfare at the AVM Studios in Chennai at around 9:30 am. Meeting the press later, the film crew said that the film has been titled Osthi.

Osthi is the remake of the Hindi smash hit Dabangg which starred Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. In the Tamil version, STR and Richa Gangopadhyay will essay the main roles. ‘Jithan’ Ramesh, Revathy, ‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi and several others are included in the star cast.

Dharani will direct this flick and Gopinath will handle the camera. Art direction is by Mani Raj and Thaman is the music director.
