Vijay Next Film Mani Ratnam or Seeman ?

Vijay is on a roll post the regime change in Tamil Nadu. His films are once again hot with the distributors. As of now, Vijay’s next release will be the M Raja-directed Velayudham. Says the director, “The shoot of the entire talkie portion of the film will be over by the end of the week. We have to shoot two more songs in Europe in the next few weeks. I think Velayudham will be ready for an August release.”

Meanwhile the actor has to complete Shankar’s Nanban, a remake of the superhit 3 idiots. The film is making brisk progress and the producers of the film have confirmed that it will be a Diwali 2011 release. This means that two of the biggest commercial films of 2011 are riding on Vijay’s box-office pull.

However, what’s interesting is that the actor is keeping everybody guessing regarding his films, post Velayudham and Nanban. The Kollywood grapevine has it that Vijay has, in principle, agreed to do two films — the Seeman-directed Pagalavan, to be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, and an untitled film for Mani Ratnam. Though Vijay fan clubs on the Internet have already made a trailer of Pagalvan with various ‘get-ups’ of Vijay as a revolutionary Tamil rebel leader, the actor is not willing to comment on it. Recently, when a few fans asked him about his next project, the actor said that he’d take a call after he is done with the films he’s working on. As far as the Mani Ratnam offer is concerned, the actor was slated to do his Ponniyin Selvan which was later shelved. At that time, he had agreed to do a Mani film when a good script comes along.

Meanwhile, a leading distributor close to the actor says, “Nothing is confirmed. Everything will depend on how big Velayudham and Nanban open at the BO. Both these films will release this year, which means Vijay will have three releases this year including Kaavalan. I personally think he will take a call on his future career moves only after the release of these two films.”
