Vijay Join for ‘Nanban’ ?

This time, it’s no more a long term project from Shankar as the producers of Gemini Film Circuit have insisted to wrap up the project on scheduled time. The first schedule was held at Ooty for a shorter while following which the actors in the movie got busy with their other projects. Of course, Vijay ha...d to complete few portions of ‘Velayudham’ while Jeeva went to Mumbai for ‘Vandhan Vendran’.

Now the entire team is getting back together at Dehradun as Jeeva tweeted saying, “will be joinin Director Shankar, Ilayathalapathy, shreekanth, Illena n Sathyaraj sir etc phewwwww gotta travel so much for some big action.” Meanwhile Shankar and Harris Jayaraj are back from London completing the music composition for remaining songs.

Mahesh Babu Signed Mani Ratnam Film ?

The big breaking news in south cinema is Mani Ratnam signing Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu to do his next bi-lingual film in Tamil and Telugu.

Mahesh Babu popularly called 'Prince' in Tollywood has tweeted on Sunday (Feb 27): "Now for some big news. Met Mani sir this morning, yes the legendary

Mani Ratnam. My dream is coming true finally. I will be working in a Mani Ratnam film. One of the happiest days in my life."

The buzz in Kollywood is that veteran director Mani Ratnam is working on making a period film Ponniyin Selvam with Vijay, Vikram and a third star. So is Mahesh Babu the third actor in the film?

Kalki's epic novel Ponniyin Selvan is widely regarded as the greatest novel ever written in Tamil. It deals with the fortunes of the Chola Empire during the 10th century.

The story revolves around Vandiyathevan, a charming young man who comes to the Chola land to deliver a message from Crown Prince Aditya Karikalan.

Meanwhile sources in Hyderabad say Mahesh-Mani project has nothing to do with Ponniyin Selvan. It is a different film which will be shot in Europe!

Comedian Santhanam Met Nithyanandha ?

Santhanam, who had the audience in splits with his antics, has met the controversial god-man Nithyanandha in Bangalore early this morning (27th Feb). The comedian who is busy shooting for the film Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal alongside Atharva and Amala Paul in Bangalore has taken some time off to meet Nithyanandha. Accompanying him was executive producer Venkat whose recent film is the soon to be released Ko.

Nithyanandha who is based in Karnataka was a well known god-man who had several followers which included famous celebrities. A sting operation by a popular magazine showed him allegedly with a Tamil actress which brought about his fall and became one of the raging controversies of recent times. Speculating about why the comedian and the producer met him, we wonder if the rumors about a movie being made about Nithyanandha are true! Watch this space for more!

Illaya Thalapathy Vijay in Premji Amaren Birthday Party !

Premji Amaren is celebrating his birthday today, 25th February 2011. The actor, according to his brother, director Venkat Prabhu, is in Thiruvannamalai to worship Lord Annamalai as he considers it auspicious to spend his birthday there. Premji, who is an accomplished actor, singer, lyricist and composer, is currently starring in Mankatha. Suriya & Jyothika act together again ?

The last time Suriya and his better half Jyothika stood together in front of the camera was perhaps for a television commercial shot for a leading telecommunication services provider.

Once again the much talked about pair is ready to share the screen space together, this time too for an ad. "It was after much persuasion we were able to convince Jyothika for shooting," Suriya says.

"As a fan, I really miss Jyothika on screen. I have always been telling her to take up acting again. But she is not ready as her sole priority is to raise kids without any deviation," adds the top actor.

For Suriya, life is so good after marrying Jo. "But for her, I wouldn’t have realised that life is this beautiful," he says. Dhanush Completes Venghai ?

Dhanush is one happy man these days. His Aadukalam has been declared a hit and everyone appreciated his hard work and commitment to his job.

When it comes to work, Dhanush can go to any lengths to achieve perfection and he has the ability to sink his teeth with complete enthusiasm into whatever role he plays.

We hear that he wrapped up the talkie portion of Hari directed mass masala entertainer Venghai in Karaikudi on Thursday evening.

Probably this will be one of his quickest, so far and he gives all credit for it to Hari who has perfect planning and vision.

Hari is all pleased with Dhanush's performance in Venghai and says that the actor has brought in that little extra something to his character, which will take him to the next level in Tamil cinema.

Dhanush is also kicked up about Seedan releasing today, even though he is doing an extended cameo in the film.

Last week, when he got off for a day, he flew in to the city and watched the film with family and friends at Four Frames theatre.

Three Films Ready for April Release ?

Leading producer Kalpathi S Aghoram, has three films which are getting ready for release. Prabhu Deva directed Engeyum Kathal featuring Jayam Ravi and Hansika, RN Manohar directed Veloor Maavattam which has Nanda and Poorna in the lead and above all Bala's Avan Ivan with Arya and Vishal.

AGS is in a fix as two of them Engeyum Kathal and Veloor Maavattam , first copy is ready, while Bala is fast completing the post production work of Avan Ivan.

The World Cup cricket has come as a speed breaker and the trade does not want to compete with cricket.

The best date available for summer 2011 release is April 7/8, as end April the Tamil Nadu assembly elections are due and by May IPL craze would be reaching its peak.

So April 7/8 to 28, will be a comparatively free period, holiday season, big Vishu weekend and Easter fall in this period.

So AGS as per trade sources is planning to release Engeyum Kathal on March 25 and Avan Ivan on April 7, and Veloor Maavattam sometime in May.

It means Avan Ivan will be AGS's tentpole film for summer of 2011.

An engineering graduate, Gautham entered movies as assistant director to the most-acclaimed Rajeev Menon while the latter was making Minsara Kanavu and learnt the nuances of the art of film making.

It started with the romantic musical Minnale with Madhavan, Reema Sen, Abbas and Vivek leading the cast, and Harris Jayaraj’s tunes luring the masses. This soothing melody was followed by a pumped-up action-packed Kaakha Kaakha – the trendsetting cop film that proved to be Suriya’s biggest break! Again Harris headed the music department and we got some soulful music to savour!

The actor is also quite excited about his upcoming project 2010 Bhagyaraj in which he plays the lead role. Interestingly, this is Premji's first film as solo hero; it also stars newcomer Ankitha, Vincent Asokan, Sridhar, Ravikanth, Uma Padmanaban and Subashini in prominent roles. 2010 Bhagyaraj is directed by Thirumalairajan aka Venkatramani, and produced by actress Sona Heiden.

Avan Ivan Release on April 7th ?

Avan Ivan’s producer AGS Entertainment has confirmed that the film will hit the screens on April 7th, 2011. Director Bala has completed the shooting of Avan Ivan and is actively involved in the post production work to facilitate an early release.

Sources say that the producer, Kalpathi Agoram is keen on releasing the film on April 7th, as the Cricket World Cup would have been wrapped up by then and the summer vacations would be on.

Avan Ivan is said to be light-hearted movie from Bala, which stars Vishal and Arya in the lead roles.

Ajith’s Punch Dialogue in Mankatha!

Here’s what Ajith fans have been eagerly waiting for – his punch line in Mankatha. It is: “Ellarum kettavan na ivan romba kettavan.” The next big question is the release date of Mankatha and its director Venkat Prabhu is flooded with questions about it. Answering this, Venkat has said that the music launch and the film’s release will be announced very soon and fans need to wait patiently for it.

Regarding his next project, Venkat has said he would like to deal with one film at a time and right now Mankatha is his centre of attraction.

Selvaraghavan to Direct Allu Arjun ?

Stylish actor Allu Arjun will soon join hands with talented Tamil director Selvaraghavan to make a fantasy flick with a whopping budget of Rs. 50 crores.

According to sources, a leading Telugu producer will produce this extravaganza, which will start rolling by the end of this year, after Selvaraghavan completes his untitled Kamal Haasan starrer. More details are awaited.

Vijay and Anushka's 'Puliveta' in March

Anushka Shetty and Vijay starrer Tamil blockbuster 'Vettaikaran' is releasing in Telugu as 'Puliveta'. This film will hit the screens in first week of March.

AVM produced this film in Tamil and Kalanidhi Maran presented it. It went on to collect Rs 70 crore in Tamilnadu market alone.

M V Gopalrao is distributing it in Telugu on his Jyothi Arts Banner. Jeeva, Srihari, Shayaji Shinde, Ghouse et al played key roles in this action thriller. Vijay Antony composed music for it. The dubbing work of this film is complete and it is ready to hit the screens.

Simbu or Danush this April ?

With World Cup coming to the end by April First week, we can have a very thrilling clash of movies between Simbu and Dhanush on April 8th. It has been a quite a long time we had any competition with Dhanush.

Both Vaanam and Maapillai will release on April 8th once the World cup finals gets over. Vaanam aduio launch falls on 6th of March and there is no news on Maapillai audio launch. The first competition would be over Audio sales and Fans are requested to have themselves updated with all the news.

Danush starrer Maapillai will be a SUN Tv Release and they have already ordered theatre owners to have Maapillai released on all their screens and we will have better and higher number of theatres booked for Vaanam. So we need to be extra careful, as they ‘SUN’ will split promotions like every 15 seconds on their television Network. And one more big release Bala's Avan Ivan starring Vishal and Arya.

Looks like the remake fever has caught on the Tamil film industry and news about Simbu playing Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg's remake is creating maximum buzz. There is another interesting news in this wake and that is the critically acclaimed Madhur Bandarkar's Hindi film Fashion is to be remade in Tamil.

Nayanthara was initally approaced to play the role essayed by Priyanka Chopra but she is said to have refused and the offer seems to have fallen onto Trisha's lap. The supporting role that was played by Kangana Ranaut is to be reprised by Priya Mani. Hindi Dabangg Remake Simbu or Karthi ?

Dabangg is setting new records not only in Bollywood, but also in Tamil and Telugu. With Dabangg opening to an overwhelming response, the enthusiasm to acquire the Tamil and Telugu remake rights has increased overnight. In fact, producer Arbaaz has already received several lucrative offers for the same.

The latest buzz is that Kollywood producers Mohan Apparao and T. Ramesh have purchased the remake rights of Dabangg for a whopping amount, the highest ever paid for a remake. Sources say that they are in talks with Karthi and Simbu to play the role of Chulbul Pandey. But the grapevine has it that Simbu is likely to star in this comedy-action musical entertainer.

Vijay in Nagapattinam Public Meet

Vijay held a protest meet at the VDP College Grounds for the fishermen in Nagapattinam and it was not any usual meeting. Vijay’s speech which was to start at 4 00 pm was delayed for about an hour due to the rains but the star and the audience waited patiently until the skies cleared. The wait was worth it, for Vijay gave a dazzling speech apart from providing them all relief. Vijay urged the fisher folk to write to the Chief Minister and Prime Minister and speedup the process of getting relief. He also emphasized that they are all like brothers to him and that they will all stand together in the time of hardships.

Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekhar who acted as the chief guest handed over Rs. 50,000 each, on stage, to two families that lost their sole bread winners in the atrocities committed. Besides this about 10 severely affected families were given fishing equipment and Rs. 10,000 each. Vijay seems to be a perfect politician material and we hope he does many more yeomen service like this in future.

Anushka as a Third Heroine in Rajinikanth's Rana ?

Superstar Rajinikanth starrer Rana is creating lot of craze even before its launch. Directed by KS Ravikumar Raana is planning to shoot the film partially in the exotic locales of London. The unit will take off to London very soon.

Rajini stars in three roles of different ages in this film. Deepika Padukone will be the heroine for one role and recently Asin was roped in as the female lead for the second role.

Anushka is likely to star as a third heroine opposite Rajinikanth. Sonu Sood is playing the role of antagonist. The film is set to be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Rajini himself will be dubbing for his role in all three versions.

Rana's Cinematographer Rathnavelu has informed a leading newspaper about the latest updates of the film. The film is currently in pre-production stage and the shoot is likely to kick off in the month of March

Maapillai, the remake of yesteryear Rajinikanth’s super duper hit of the same name, stars his son-in-law Dhanush. The film is being directed by Suraaj, the director who had directed the actor in Padikathavan.

Maapillai has Hansika Motwani as Dhanush’s lead pair and Bollywood star Manisha Koirala playing his mother-in-law, a very meaty character. This film is said to hit the screens during the first week of April.

Sources in Kollywood state that with this film also gearing up for April release, it will have a tough competition with Ko and Engeyum Kadhal.

New Script For Billa 2 ?

Ajith was actively involved in the penning of the screenplay for Asal and will now do so for Billa 2. Director Vishnuvardhan had readied a screenplay for Billa 2 and had the approval of Wide Angle Creations to go ahead with the film.

However, Vishnu was busy with the Arya starrer Sarvam at that time and the project could not take off leading Ajith to sign up Venkat Prabhu’s Mankatha. Now, Vishnu is concentrating in a Telugu flick that has Pawan Kalayan playing the lead and hence he is not in a position to direct Ajith in Billa 2.

Following this, Ajith and Chakri Toleti, the director of Unnai Pol Oruvan, are jointly penning a new script for Billa 2. The project is expected to go on floors as planned in April or May this year.

Vaanam’s Release on April 9th

Vaanam has been in the making for quite some time now and Silambarasan’s fans are eager to catch their favorite star on screen after the success of Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya.

From the day Vaanam’s audio launch date, which is to be held on March 6th, 2011, was announced Silambarasan’s fans are eager to know about the film’s release date. Enquiries in Kollywood have revealed that the film may hit the silver screens on April 9th. The filmmakers intend to release Vaanam as soon as the Cricket World Cup is wrapped up and hence have decided on the said date, we are told.

Vaanam, which is the remake of the Telugu flick Vedam, is directed by Krish and stars Anushka, Bharath and Prakash Raj. Music has been scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Udayanidhi Stalin Plays a Band Master ?

Producer Udayanidhi Stalin is all set to don a new avatar as hero in Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, a film to be directed by Boss engira Bhaskaran fame Rajesh. This film, which is said to go on floors on March 1st, is also touted to be a full-length comedy.

Sources in Kollywood state that Udayanidhi plays a band master and part time theatre ticket collector in this film. The film has Hansika Motwani playing Udayanidhi’s on-screen pair and Santhanam as comedian.

Harris Jayraj is scoring the music for this film and Nirav Shah will wield the camera.

Vishal Next Prabhu Deva Film ?

Recently, Vishal completed the shoot of Bala’s Avan Ivan and now he has already started working on his next project. This film, directed by Prabhu Deva, is produced under Vishal’s home banner GK Film Corporation. Pretty actress Sameera Reddy has already started shooting for the film in Chennai. Reportedly Sameera plays the role of a fun-loving college girl Paaro. Sameera will try her hand at comedy for the first time in this film. The untitled film is a complete action entertainer shot in Tamil Nadu and Kolkata.

Jeeva 25th Film in 3D ?

Jeeva will soon start his 25th film, which according to him will be so special in terms of content, making and presentation. “It will be a 3D movie to be made on a big budget,” says the actor.

“It is my long time dream to act in a totally different script which was not attempted so far. It would come true with my 25th movie. Talks are currently on and an announcement will be made soon,” Jeeva reveals.

Happy about working with Shankar in ‘Nanban’, a remake of ‘3 Idiots’, he says, “Nanban is the biggest gift for me this year. Shankar is so down-to-earth and is very friendly. It is a different experience to act with Vijay and Srikanth.”

Vijay Will Join Fishermen on February 22nd ?

Vijay will join the fishermen in Nagapattinam to protest against the atrocities meted out on the Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. The actor has been vehemently championing this cause among a lot others and will join the protestors on February 22nd in Nagapattinam.

Vijay has taken time off from his busy schedule to ensure that he lends his voice for the fishermen community that is languishing from the Sri Lankan Navy attacks. The stars feels that the plight of the fishermen should be brought to fore so that government steps in to take stringent action.
